Through service to various organizations, I both enact my scholarship and share my vision of teaching with other educators, from kindergarten through the university. I distinguish on each item between long-term service (requiring commitments that streched over months, and ad hoc service, which requires brief engagement). As you will see, I value long-term service and commit my efforts to a variety of organizations that serve teachers.

In this role, I work with other members of the Michigan Reading Association Executive Board and provide insights on technology-related issues. In particular, I am involved in redesigning the MRA website and planning a strand of technology and media sessions for the annual conference, attended by over 3000 educators each spring.

As part of a team of National Writing Project teacher consultants, I have helped facilitate the Technology Matters Institute for the past two summers. This week-long, intensive workshop requires teachers to apply for participation and then brings invitees to the campus of Chico State University to develop the pedagicial and technical skills for them to teach digital writing in their classrooms and deliver professional development to other teachers at their local writing project site.
